Raphael Mbotela is a 17-years old referee from Zambia who became probably the world's youngest referee to make his international debut, refereeing a game between two national team - the under 17s of Botswana and Namibia.
Raphael had previously made the news last year when, aged 16 and without proper equipment (he used jerseys donated to him by referees in other countries), he became Africa's youngest to referee a game between two professional teams.
"I can't even go to school because I don't have books, a school uniform and other necessities. I can't afford referee uniforms either", he said back then.
"Refereeing is my dream, I am really enjoying it. Once I step on the pitch, I don't look at my age or the big players. I am the man in charge. One day I'd like to complete school and become like Janny Sikazwe (Zambia's top referee)".
He's since been noticed by the Zambia FA who offered him the support he needed, both in terms of equipment, opportunities and school necessities. Until today, when he became Africa's youngest to make an international debut.
Well done, Raphael π⚽
